GenEd Workshop at the NE Regional Social Studies Conference in Boston

The 2017 Northeast Regional Conference for the Social Studies welcomed educators from across the east coast with the theme, “Social Studies Matters: A Strong Citizenry Through a Well-Rounded Education.”

During WWI, Ottoman Turkey systematically annihilated 1.5 million Armenians, more than half of the Armenian population living in their historic homeland. The testimonies of survivors, including recently translated memoirs, provide a compelling lens to engage students in this history and the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide.

Sara Cohan, Education Advisor for The Genocide Education Project, presented a workshop introducing survivor testimonies as a teaching tool about genocide.

Educators attending the GenEd workshop received classroom materials including videos, photographs, and lesson plans.
