President Biden formally recognizes the Armenian Genocide

April 24 is Armenian Martyrs’ Day and the date Armenian’s around the world commemorate the beginning of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks in 1915. 2021 marks the first time this century that an American President acknowledged that what happened was indeed a Genocide. President Biden made this statement on April 24, 2021, which followed Congress’s acknowledgment in 2019. GenEd’s Executive Director explains to KTVU why this is significant.

This announcement was fresh off a week of successful educator workshops that GenEd participated in or sponsored, including this webinar that Sara Cohan GenEd Education Director, produced on the basic history of the Armenian Genocide.
